A common data environment (CDE) is a single space where all project information is stored and processed. Models, drawings, documents, issues and correspondence all live in one place, with clear access rights and change history.
Most companies still keep their projects in email, messengers and folders on a network drive. One person works on the latest version of the model, another on the one they downloaded two weeks ago. The result is rework, missed deadlines and disputes. A CDE ends this mess - one source of truth for everyone.
Without a CDE, BIM simply doesn't work: information modeling depends on data living in a shared environment. On top of that, Kazakhstan's new Construction Code (No. 253-VIII, in force since July 1, 2026) makes BIM, known locally as TIMSO, part of an asset's life cycle, with stricter digital requirements for state-funded and technically complex projects.

FAQ - common questions about CDE
How is a CDE different from a regular cloud drive?
A drive just stores files. A CDE manages them: versions, statuses, permissions, approval history and links to the BIM model. You always know which version is current and who approved it.
Is a CDE mandatory under the Construction Code?
Code No. 253-VIII (in force since 01.07.2026) makes TIMSO part of an asset's life cycle. Digital requirements are stricter for state-funded and technically complex projects. Check how they apply to your projects against the current TIMSO codes of practice.
How long does implementation take?
A pilot takes from a few weeks. Full rollout depends on company size and the number of disciplines. We'll give you a realistic timeline after the audit.
